Experiencing Rifugio Stivo
Alpine hospitality and eco-sustainable soul in the heart of Trentino
Rifugio Stivo, owned by the SAT (the Trentino section of the CAI), boasts a centenary history that began with its inauguration in 1906. From its privileged position at 2,012 meters, the view spans 360°: from Lago di Garda to the Vallagarina, from the Dolomiti di Brenta to the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella, all the way to the Appennini and the border Alps on the clearest days.
Since 2017, after various and successful management periods over time, the SAT has entrusted the refuge to the young Alberto Bighellini from Verona who, driven by a deep love for the mountain, decided to give life to a project of his own. The true strengths of the structure coincide with what for others would be limitations: simplicity, the absence of modern comforts, and authenticity. Those who climb to Stivo seek exactly this: a real experience and a true alpine refuge. Reachable only on foot with a walk of about two hours, the structure welcomes hikers by offering:
- Quality dining: an essential but well-prepared and substantial menu, served in a dining room that accommodates up to 60 people.
- Traditional overnight stay: shared rooms for hospitality in pure alpine style. In compliance with hygiene regulations, it is mandatory to use a sleeping bag.
- Sport and adventure: perfect territory for ski mountaineering (fortunately we have no ski lifts), trekking, climbing, paragliding, and MTB trails.
- Shop: a small corner dedicated to memories, where you can buy exclusive gadgets and t-shirts.
Our eco-sustainable commitment to the mountain
Living at over two thousand meters is a precious opportunity to integrate with nature and reduce, as far as possible, one's ecological footprint. At Rifugio Stivo almost every resource is managed in harmony with the surrounding environment. The water supply takes place through a rainwater recovery system: a 100% green choice that eliminates waste and protects the high-altitude ecosystem. Likewise, to produce energy and heat water, we rely on the clean and renewable power of the sun, thanks to a modern system of photovoltaic panels and solar panels. All this is favored by the isolated position of the refuge, which lacks any energy or sewage connection.
Sustainability also passes through the table, with the choice of using organic and local products. We select seasonal ingredients from the valleys that surround us, supporting the local economy and guaranteeing our guests authentic, fresh dishes linked to the alpine culture.
