FAQ

How do you resupply the mountain hut?
The mountain hut is resupplied via helicopter and by hiking up with heavy backpacks. The existing cableway is broken and located on private land: its use is prohibited due to legal disputes that have been ongoing for over twenty years. The current staff are in no way involved in these disputes; however, they bear the consequences (the helicopter is very expensive, and carrying heavy backpacks takes a physical toll). We kindly ask you to keep this in mind when considering the services the hut provides!
What is the opening period of the mountain hut?
During the summer season, the mountain hut is open daily from June 1st to November 2nd. During the winter season, it is open every weekend with good weather, during the Christmas holidays (from December 27th to January 6th), and on full moon nights. During the winter period, always verify the actual opening by contacting the manager.
Does the mountain hut have a winter room?
Of course, there are two external rooms with 4 beds each, equipped with mattresses and blankets: both are always accessible when the hut is closed, while they function as regular rooms like the others when the hut is open. They are not equipped with heating.
Is a reservation mandatory for staying overnight?
Yes, a reservation is mandatory for dinner and overnight stays, but not for lunch.
Do the rooms have private bathrooms?
No, all rooms have shared bathrooms.
How are the rooms organized?
We have small and comfortable rooms ranging from three to seven beds. However, as this is an alpine hut, the rooms are not "private," and your reservation covers only the individual bed, which includes a mattress and blankets.
What do I need for an overnight stay at the mountain hut?
For hygiene reasons, the use of a sleeping bag or a sleeping bag liner is mandatory: if you don't have one, we can rent it to you! Please note that other personal toiletries (such as shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, etc.) are not provided, given the nature of the location.
Is it possible to take a shower?
It depends on the current water supplies. Since we only collect rainwater, our ability to guarantee a shower depends on the amount of recent rainfall. In any case, when available, a shower can be used by purchasing a token for €5, which provides ten liters of water.
Is there a Wi-Fi network available at the mountain hut?
Fortunately or unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi connection available. Some mobile networks have fairly good reception both inside and outside the hut; you can contact the manager for any urgent needs regarding phone use.
What does the half-board package include?
Half-board includes dinner (with a first and second course à la carte), the overnight stay, and breakfast. Drinks are included with breakfast but are considered extras for dinner.
Are gluten-free options available?
Yes, we serve dishes that do not contain gluten ingredients, but we must specify that—given the size and the water shortage—our kitchen is not equipped to completely prevent cross-contamination. If you are highly allergic, we won't mind at all if you bring your own food from home!
Are vegetarian and vegan dishes available?
Yes, absolutely. The menu is not very extensive, but options without meat or animal products can always be found!
Is it necessary to book for lunch?
No, as an alpine hut, we believe in guaranteeing a hot meal for everyone. At most, you might have to wait a little while for your turn, but we have plenty of food for everyone!
Is it necessary to book for dinner and an overnight stay?
Yes, always. Bed spaces are limited, and you risk arriving here without a place to stay the night. For dinner, for organizational reasons, we need to know the exact number of people in your group.
Are there any water springs near the hut?
No, Mount Stivo lacks water at this altitude. The only water available at the hut is rainwater which, for obvious reasons, is limited and not drinkable.
Is it possible to pay with both cash and electronic cards?
Yes, but please keep in mind that the internet connection is sometimes very limited, so card payments may require a bit of patience.
Are there discounts for CAI/SAT/DAV/ etc. members?
Yes. Regarding discounts, we invite you to consult the "prices and rates" section.
Are there discounts for children?
Yes, for children under 5 years old, the overnight stay is free of charge (assuming the child sleeps in the same bed as the parent). Between 5 and 18 years old, the rate corresponds to the YOUTH MEMBERS rate described in the "rates" section.
Are pets allowed inside the mountain hut?
Of course, assuming the use of a leash and that the dog is kept under the owner's control. Regarding the overnight stay, an external room with four beds is available (cold in winter, perfect in summer) intended for guests who wish to sleep with their dog. For reasons related to hygiene and room cleaning, a fee of 5 euros is requested for the dog's overnight stay.
