Walking towards the summit: explore the most panoramic routes of Stivo
Monte Stivo offers a network of trails suitable for every type of walker, from a simple direct ascent to a panoramic ridge excursion. Our refuge, located at an altitude of 2012 meters, represents the natural crossroads of these itineraries: it is the ideal goal for those climbing on foot and the perfect starting point to continue the exploration.
Here are the main official trails (SAT/CAI markers) that arrive at and depart from Rifugio Stivo:
- From Passo Santa Barbara (Trail 608): This is the main and most popular access route. Starting from the pass, or from the Sant'Antonio locality, the track crosses the pastures of Malga Stivo and takes you straight to the refuge in about 2 hours of walking.
- From Passo Bordala or Campo di Drena (Trails 623 and 617): These tracks climb the forested slopes of the mountain from the east and west, both converging at the meadows of Cima Bassa (1706 m). From this junction, trail 617 leads directly to our door in about 2 and a half hours total.
- The Summit of Monte Stivo (Trail 617B): Starting directly from the refuge, it only takes 5 minutes of easy climbing to reach the large summit cross at 2064 meters. It is the highest panoramic point of the mountain, with a spectacular 360° view and Lake Garda at your feet.
- Viote del Bondone Traverse (Trails 617 and 607): A long panoramic itinerary designed for those with good physical fitness. From the Viote plain, you can undertake this traverse which follows the entire northern ridge line towards Monte Stivo and the refuge.
All routes are well marked. Choose your starting slope, lace up your boots, and enjoy the ascent to altitude.
